Coordinate Metrology Systems

7:30 min, video / 16mm film, 1999/2021
A video created for the Temporary Files video cooperative and online residency.

Accompanying interview conducted by Kara Hearn is here.

The 2021 Temp.Files collective includes Emily Brandt, Tusia Dabrowska, Rah Eleh, Kara Hearn, Michelle Levy, Sunita Prasad, Rachel Stevens.

This project explores complex intersections and overlaps across material and virtual bodies by way of technology, labor, gender and a fantasy of colonial conquest. The video brings together an interview with seamstress, artist and engineer Lynn Dewart, my fascination with Lara Croft while playing the Sony Playstation game Tomb Raider and 16mm film documentation of Lynn Dewart measuring me for a dressmaker’s pattern of my whole body (which I hired her to do). The original material was created in 1999 as part of a sculpture installation at UC San Diego, but finally assembled into an essay film in 2021.
